Coating the collages

Varnishproject
Ah, the glamour of art... I've had to commandeer the kitchen again with its industrial-strength exhaust fan as I varnish about 15 small works on wood for my upcoming show! Each collage gets at least three coats with a UV-resistant varnish. Here's a view down one counter... but you'll have to turn your head to the right to imagine these pieces in their final orientation!

They'll look so much better when they're hung in the gallery next week. I'll be sure to post photos, hopefully some video too... so that if you can't make it in person, you can see the installation.

Most of you should be receiving a postcard invite and/or an email announcement from me if you are on my mailing list... If you'd like to be added, please drop me an email with your contact information via my website

Details

Janicemcdonald.collage-detail
This is a detail from a collage that I've recently finished for my upcoming exhibition, "Composed," opening at Spark Gallery on April 1st. I've done some very neutral pieces and some intensely bright pieces (maybe the influence of the approach of spring?)... and am finalizing all the details of the show itself.

Postcards arrived from printer yesterday, email announcements go out soon -- it's a busy time in the studio. Much to complete, varnish, wire, label, organize.

In addition, last month was one of the most intense, in terms of design business commitments, in a year or so. I will definitely breath a sigh of relief when this show is on the wall! (More images to come...)

Big collage detail

Janice_mcdonald.bigdetail
I'm working on a whole series of collages for a show at Spark Gallery in Denver that opens April 1st... and the "big one" I've been blogging about is very nearly done. Thought I'd post another detail however, before showing you the whole thing... since I need to get some professional lighting to shoot the final image of it! I've been using pages from books, wrappings, utility papers, reinforcements, magazine/newspaper clippings, shopping bags, envelopes... a little bit of everything comes together in this collage.
