Unveiled: Vet pet collage commission

VetpetportraitwallYesterday was the grand opening of the Aspen Arbor Animal Hospital. It was fun to see my pet-related commission on their walls. I created the six collage portraits above (each 12 x 12 x 1") along with the cut-out collaged figures on an adjacent wall (see overall photo below). It was fun to see my work hung and being appreciated. I'll need to go back to get some more photos of the collages without all the hoopla, but you get the idea!Vet.overallreceptionVet.wallfiguresI love the silk aspen leaf mobiles over the reception desk. They were done by Colorado artist Jan Carson.More detailed photos of the figures to come... They were all collaged on black, then cut out with a band saw, edges painted, blocks affixed to back so they stand a bit off the wall. They have a very cartoon-y look from a distance. Completely different from anything I've ever done!Collage.figureprep

Further whimsy... vet commission

Janice_mcdonald.dog3 Janice_mcdonald.cat3Above are the final two in a series of six pet images, each 12 x 12 x 1" collages for recent commission.I've completed the wall figures now and am in the finishing stages of cutting them out, painting edges, varnishing, attaching hangers, etc. in preparation for delivery next week. Below is a photo of one of my favorites, still on the larger board and with some test papers affixed to the margins. When cut out, these images will have a black border and be even more cartoonlike. I have a whole menagerie in my studio these days!Vet.centralfigure

Whimsy: Progress on the Feline/Canine Commission

Janice_mcdonald.cat1 Janice_mcdonald.cat2Janice_mcdonald.dog2 Janice_mcdonald.dog1Here are snapshots of four of the six pet collage portraits (12 x 12 x 1") that I've been working on for a recent commission. "They" have been fun to work on. It's really different to start out to make a specific creature (3 feline, 3 canine) versus the images that tend to evolve in my Foundling series. Still, they develop distinct and whimsical personalities as I work! I'll post photos of the other two soon.Meanwhile, I'm moving into the work on figures for the wall installation this week... big black gessoed boards are everywhere, waiting to come to life!
