2009 has been such a wonderful, trying, surprising year so far. 
I'm thankful for:

The serenity of our home.

Health, mostly. Family, always. Friends, throughout.

My daughter's acceptance at the college of her dreams, studying what she loves most.

My husband's energy, openness to new possibilities and unwavering support.

My art/design opportunities.

Millenium's enthusiastic companionship.

Miscellaneous minor miracles.

So many responses to four words

"A Book About Death" has been chronicled in a video showing glimpses of each piece and the show installation at the  Emily Harvey Foundation Gallery in New York City in September. Approximately 500 artists sent in 500 post card works to be distributed in the gallery space as pages for the book. Pretty amazing to watch so many pieces and consider the imagery that recurs. My collage shows up at about 5:25, or read about it in an earlier post. Pleased to have my work included in this project.

Gnarliness

I took this photo at a viewpoint overlooking the Pacific in the San Juan Capistrano area yesterday. There was a whole group of these wonderfully gnarly trees. I don't know what kind. The structure of this one reminded me of a hand reaching up to the sky.I'd been in California to visit relatives and unfortunately my mom fell and broke her hip, requiring surgery. I was able to delay my departure and stay a few extra days to help out. So I took this photo during a quick break away from the hospital. A foray into nature, however short, tends to put life into perspective for me. No ocean photos (although it was pretty) -- it was the trees that spoke to me of age and strength and determination.
